Our staff pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service and do everything we can to help customers find the products they are looking for as quickly and knowledgeably as possible. We believe firmly in giving back to the communities we serve. Over the years, A. Phillips Hardware has helped organizations such as Equinox, Make A Wish Foundation, Children's Miracle Network, Big Brothers & Big Sisters and Little League Baseball. We have implemented a motto "Phillips Hardware, Where it's All About Service" to help show the communities that we are here to meet their needs.
Company History
The Phillips family arrived in Albany, New York in 1886. They survived the harsh record blizzard of that year and opened their own business as steamfitters and locksmiths. The next generation expanded into the hardware business. After surviving the Great Depression and World War II, A. Phillips Hardware stood strong against large chain stores that threatened independent retailers. Today, Jon Phillips, fifth generation of the Phillips family, manages the family-owned business which has grown from its original steamfitter and locksmith shop to a seven store chain, with locations in Albany, Colonie, Delmar, Waterford, Altamont, Schenectady and Voorheesville.
Despite the daily challenges they face from big box retailers, A. Phillips Hardware continues to stand strong and independent, meeting the needs of its customer base. Over the last few years our company has computerized and modernized our stores. We have searched for and implemented tactics to streamline our operations and provide better customer service. We offer such a diverse product mix to meet the customers' individual needs such as, a full line of hardware, paint, plumbing, electrical, tools, seasonal, building materials and houseware merchandise. In addition to traditional products and services that customers expect to find, we offer "out of the box" services at all seven stores. Such as small engine repair, window and screen repair, delivery, rental equipment and a commercial program tailored around a company's specific needs. Furthermore, there has been an addition to the Phillips Family, Morris the Moose, our Goodwill Ambassador. We took the initiative to introduce a company mascot who can be seen at many community and charitable functions as well as at the stores.
We just added a new location on Union Street in Schenectady. We are excited to join the quaint Upper Union Street community and look forward to our growth in the area. We have also partnered with Passonno Paints in this location to sell thier locally manufacturered paint. This 4th generation family owned business are "the most colorful people in your hometown". Our convenient locations have easy in – easy out access and we will carry out your merchandise or walk you to your car with an umbrella when it is raining. We pride ourselves on service, which includes a broad range of hardware knowledge and have access to over 60,000 items through our co-op. Phillips Hardware can special order items and can normally have them delivered to our store within a week. Come in and have one of our employees help you on your next project!
